What are net carbs?

Understanding Net Carbs

At The Keto Shop, we know how important it is to keep track of carbs — whether you’re managing diabetes, living a ketogenic lifestyle, or just cutting down on sugar. That’s why we clearly show net carbs on our products, not just the legally required “total carbs.”

Total Carbs vs Net Carbs

In the UK and EU, the nutritional panel lists Total Carbohydrate, which includes: Sugars, Starches, Polyols (sugar alcohols like erythritol)

But not all of these affect your blood sugar or your ability to stay in ketosis.

Net Carbs = Total Carbs – Polyols (e.g. erythritol)

**Net Carbs are calculated differently for products from the USA as such:
Carbohydrates - Dietary Fibre - Sugar Alcohols = Net Carbs.**

Why?

Poloyols such as Erythritol (and other natural sweeteners) are not metabolised by the body — they don’t cause spikes in glucose or insulin.

Why Net Carbs Matter for Keto

Your body switches into ketosis when carbohydrate intake is low enough that it burns fat for fuel instead of sugar.

Total carbs overstate what really impacts ketosis. Net carbs give the true picture of what affects your blood sugar and ketone levels.

That’s why we use net carbs as the key measure on our website.

Our Promise at The Keto Shop

We only stock products that use natural, keto-friendly sweeteners like erythritol and stevia.

No artificial sweeteners, no hidden sugars.

Every product is carefully checked for ingredients and net carb values.

What you see on our site is what truly matters for your low-carb lifestyle.
